Old Jerusalem

Old Jerusalem is a project led by the Portuguese musician Francisco Silva. The release of the split-demo CD “Old & Alla”, in December 2001, marks both the beginning of public activity for Old Jerusalem as a band and for Francisco Silva as a songwriter.

After a few concerts and appearances on several compilations, Old Jerusalem released in January 2003 its debut album, “April”, through the small Portuguese independent label Bor Land.

Since then Old Jerusalem has maintained a steady level of activity, between concerts, new releases – “Twice the humbling sun” (2005), the split-EP “Splitted” (2006) with Puny and Bruno Duarte, “The temple bell” (2007) and, more recently, “Two birds blessing” (2009) – and collaborations with other artists, not only as a musician (The Unplayable Sofa Guitar, Green Machine, The Neon Road, among others), but also as a writer, having worked on this level with artists as diverse as Carlos Bica, Bernardo Sassetti, Alla Polacca, Mandrágora and Kubik.

O projecto Old Jerusalem iniciou actividade em meados de 2001, tendo gravado um registo de apresentação em Dezembro desse ano em conjunto com os Alla Polacca (a demo Old & Alla). Este registo de estreia do projecto marca também o início da actividade pública de Francisco Silva – o mentor da banda – enquanto escritor de canções.

Depois de alguns concertos e de participações em várias compilações, o projecto Old Jerusalem lançou em Janeiro de 2003 o álbum de estreia, “April”, produzido por Paulo Miranda e editado pela Bor Land.

Desde aí Old Jerusalem tem mantido um nível de actividade regular, entre concertos, edição de novos registos – “Twice the humbling sun” (2005), o split-EP “Splitted” (2006) em conjunto com Puny e Bruno Duarte, “The temple bell” (2007) e, mais recentemente “Two birds blessing” (2009) – e colaborações com outros artistas, não só como músico/intérprete (The Unplayable Sofa Guitar, Green Machine, The Neon Road, entre outros), mas também como autor, tendo desenvolvido a este título trabalho com artistas tão diversos quanto Carlos Bica, Bernardo Sassetti, Alla Polacca, Mandrágora ou Kubik.
