Blac Koyote is José Alberto Gomes, half of the duo Nimai, who decided to build a space of his own, beat by beat, layer upon layer, melody upon melody, experience upon experience, converging in a place that gathers all the electronics that populate his imagination, slowly built upon, in complicity with his various influences. Blac Koyote is preparing to release a new album, highlighting the authorial quality, the dexterity in the construction of landscapes, the chameleonic ability of someone who apparently places each sound exactly where he wants. Live, Blac Koyote becomes a variable collective that consistently includes video work and a strong multimedia component.

Lula is the third of the three single releases that will anticipate his debut LP next October. The Lula single features the Lula original version and remixes by Octa Push and Daily Misconceptions. Ao 5º disco, Old Jerusalem decide focar a actividade criativa do projecto nos seus elementos basilares. O presente álbum, apropriadamente homónimo considerando esta inclinação estética e “logística”, é composto e interpretado na sua totalidade por Francisco Silva, o mentor de Old Jerusalem desde a sua génese em 2001.

Se a nível lírico se pode afirmar que a atenção às palavras e a procura do chamado “mot juste” se mantêm inalterados – ainda que talvez mais focados numa dimensão quase-narrativa eminentemente alegórica e menos no tom expressionista que predominou em alguns dos anteriores trabalhos da banda -, já a nível da composição musical encontramos em “Old Jerusalem” arranjos e abordagens sonoras próprios de uma pop-folk “de câmara”, essencialmente limpa e caracteristicamente introspectiva, ainda que pontuada a momentos por canções de maior abertura e leveza.

Não sendo uma linha estética estranha ao projecto, o tom contido e tendencialmente minimal de “Old Jerusalem” assinala ainda assim um recentrar da banda numa linha que se pode dizer originária, pondo um parêntesis (ou um voltar de página?) na tendência de expansão sonora e colaborativa de Old Jerusalem, que de disco para disco se vinha sentindo ao longo da vida editorial da banda até ao momento. Ao invés, o ponto de partida de boa parte dos temas constantes deste trabalho são rendilhados de guitarras double tracked, com o restante espectro sonoro preenchido por harmonizações vocais recorrentes (a tempos reminiscentes do trabalho conjunto de Paul Simon e Art Garfunkel, uma das referências musicais embrionárias de Francisco Silva), e linhas graves de moog que asseguram as fundações “telúricas” sempre necessárias ao sustento de qualquer conjunto de canções.

“Old Jerusalem”, com edição agendada para 19 de Setembro de 2011 por intermédio do colectivo PAD, marca assim um diferente tipo de continuidade na evolução estética da banda. Uma continuidade que revisita de alguma forma a génese do projecto, sem que essa revisitação formal anule o facto de estas serem canções de agora, canções que formam o corpo de um trabalho que assinala o 5º degrau na maturação deste projecto de exploração e experimentação em torno da palavra cantada.

On his 5th album, Old Jerusalem decides to focus creativity on the basic foundations of the project. The present album, appropriately self-titled considering these aesthetic and “logistical” leanings, was composed and performed in its entirety by Francisco Silva, the mentor of the Old Jerusalem projects since its birth in 2001.

If, on a lyrical level, it can be claimed that the careful attention to words and the quest for the so-called “mot juste” are maintained, unaltered – even if perhaps more focused on an eminently allegorical, quasi-narrative dimension rather than in the expressionist tone that dominated some of the prior works by the band - , on the musical composition level we find in “Old Jerusalem” arrangements and sonic approaches inherent to a “chamber” pop-folk, essentially clean and characteristically introspective, even if punctuated at times by songs of greater openness and lightness.

While this aesthetic is not foreign to the project, the contained and largely minimalistic tone of “Old Jerusalem” signals a “back to the start” approach refocusing the band on a path that we can identify as a new starting point in the collaborative and sonically expansive tendencies that were part and parcel of the Old Jerusalem project from release to release up until now. Instead, the starting point for the songs in this new work are woven from double-tracked guitars while the rest of the sonic sphere is filled with recurrent vocal harmonizations (at times reminiscent of the joint work of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, one of the embryonic influences in Francisco Silva), and bass moog lines that solidify the “telluric” foundations that are ever-necessary to the support of any body of songs.

With a domestic release date of September 19th 2011, followed by an international release date in November, “Old Jerusalem” released through the PAD artist collective, marks a different type of continuity in the band’s evolution. A continuity that in a way revisits the genesis of the band, without that formal visit annulling the fact that these are present-day songs, songs that make up a work signalling the 5th degree of maturing for this project of exploration and experimentation around the word that is sung.
